Usopp Statue

5 of 10 in attractions in One Piece Kumamoto Revival Project

Usopp (ウソップ像), the sharpshooter of the Straw Hat Pirates from the renowned anime One Piece, proudly stands at Aso Station, striking a heroic pose with his finger raised toward the sky. Behind this imposing statue rises Nakadake, one of Japan’s most active and iconic volcanoes, creating a breathtaking and dramatic natural backdrop. The statue is part of the One Piece Kumamoto Revival Project — a collaborative effort between Kumamoto Prefecture and One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda—to support the region’s recovery after the 2016 earthquakes. More than just a tribute to a beloved character, the statue serves as a beacon of hope and resilience for the people of Aso. The area endured severe devastation during the earthquakes, which triggered massive landslides that scarred the surrounding mountains and disrupted local life.

The choice of Usopp as a symbol in Aso holds deep significance. Known for his resourcefulness and clever use of natural elements in battle, Usopp perfectly embodies the spirit of strength and perseverance needed to restore Aso’s once-vibrant grasslands and communities. His presence reflects the unwavering determination of the local people to rebuild and heal—symbolizing the powerful connection between nature’s forces and human resilience as the region continues its inspiring recovery journey.
