Installed as part of the One Piece Kumamoto Revival Project — a collaboration between Kumamoto Prefecture and One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda, who hails from the region—the statue honors and supports the area's recovery from the devastating 2016 earthquakes. More than a tribute to an iconic anime character, Luffy’s statue stands as a powerful symbol of leadership and resilience at the very heart of the prefectural government.
