In Nagasaki, getting around is easy with the city’s tram system and walkable streets. Most popular sights are located within 1 kilometer of Nagasaki Station, so you can either walk or take a quick 5-minute tram ride. The only major attraction located farther out is the Nagasaki Peace Park, which is about 10 minutes by tram to the north in the Urakami district.
The city has four tram lines operated by Nagasaki Electric Tramway, running every 5–8 minutes from 6:00 to 23:00. A single ride costs 140 yen, and a 1-day pass for unlimited rides is available for 600 yen. You board through the back, exit at the front, and pay the driver. Transfers between lines are easy and often not needed, except at a couple of stops like Shinchi-Chinatown. If needed, use an IC card like Suica or Nimoca to transfer within 30 minutes without paying again. City buses are also available but mainly used to reach Mount Inasa. From Nagasaki Airport, buses to the city run every 20 minutes, take about 45 minutes, and cost 1200 yen.

Nagasaki Travel Tips
Nagasaki (長崎), the vibrant capital of Nagasaki Prefecture, is a captivating port city nestled around a picturesque inlet on Kyushu Island. With its unique blend of rich history, diverse culture, and stunning landscapes, Nagasaki stands out as one of Japan's most intriguing destinations. The city has long been a gateway for foreign trade, significantly influencing Japan's interactions with the world during its period of isolation.
Nagasaki's historical significance is marked by its status as one of the few ports open to foreign traders, shaping its diverse culture. Tragically, it was also the second city, after Hiroshima, to experience the devastation of an atomic bomb during World War II. Today, visitors can explore its poignant history through sites such as the Atomic Bomb Museum and Peace Park, alongside enjoying the charming streets filled with cafes, gardens, and stunning views of the surrounding hills and ocean.
