Getting around

Hakone is a mountainous region made up of several small towns, including Moto-Hakone and Hakone-machi by Lake Ashi, as well as Hakone-Yumoto, known for its hot springs. These towns serve as the area's main transport hubs. The region is easy to explore thanks to a well-connected network of buses, trains, cable cars, ropeways, and sightseeing boats. One popular way to experience Hakone is by following the Hakone Round Course, which includes all five modes of transportation.

Several travel passes make getting around Hakone more convenient. The Hakone Free Pass provides unlimited access to trains, buses, boats, and cable cars for two or three days. The Fuji Hakone Pass also covers travel to the Fuji Five Lakes area and includes a round-trip from Tokyo to Hakone. For broader exploration, the Hakone Kamakura Pass offers three days of unlimited travel across the Odakyu Rail Network, including Hakone and Kamakura.

Hakone is an incredible destination that offers a perfect mix of natural beauty, cultural experiences, and relaxing hot springs. I visited Lake Ashinoko and was amazed by the stunning views of Mount Fuji. The Hakone Ropeway and Tozan Railway provided scenic rides that gave me breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. I also enjoyed the Hakone Open Air Museum, which showcases impressive art in a beautiful outdoor setting. The onsens, particularly in Gora and Yumoto, were incredibly relaxing and the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploration. I highly recommend Hakone for anyone seeking a peaceful yet exciting getaway.
