Kamo Aquarium

4 of 4 in Sakata

Kamo Aquarium (加茂水族館, Kamo Suizokukan), is famous for its breathtaking collection of jellyfish. The highlight is the "Jellyfish Park," where dozens of jellyfish species are displayed in beautifully back-lit, circular windows. The low lighting and unique design create a mesmerizing visual effect, making it a favorite spot for visitors. Though the species descriptions are mainly in Japanese, the immersive experience is still captivating for all. Inside, a fascinating jellyfish farm offers a rare glimpse into the delicate process of incubating thousands of tiny, unborn jellyfish.

Beyond its jellyfish exhibits, the aquarium also features a diverse range of local marine life, showcasing both freshwater and saltwater species from the surrounding waters. For entertainment, a small outdoor arena hosts daily seal shows, providing fun for families. Visitors can unwind in the peaceful rooftop garden, where a deck offers sweeping views of the sea. The aquarium also has a café, serving light refreshments, and a souvenir shop where visitors can take home unique mementos from their visit.
