Kanto Region
The Kanto Region (関東) spans the eastern part of Honshu and is made up of seven prefectures: Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama, Gunma, Tochigi, and Ibaraki. Located on Japan’s largest plain, the region offers a striking contrast between modern cities, expansive suburbs, and tranquil rural landscapes. From mountainous nature reserves to scenic coastlines and fertile plains, Kanto showcases the full diversity of Japan’s geography.
At the heart of Kanto are Tokyo and Yokohama, two of the country’s largest and most vibrant cities. Tokyo, the capital, serves as Japan’s political, cultural, and economic hub, while Yokohama is known for its international port and sleek, modern cityscape. Together, they form the dynamic urban center of the region.
