In Takaoka, there are two train stations: Takaoka Station in the city center and Shin-Takaoka Station just 2 km south. Takaoka Station connects to local trains, trams, and buses. Shin-Takaoka Station is on the Hokuriku Shinkansen line. You can travel between the two stations by JR train (3 minutes, 150 yen), by bus (10 minutes, 160 yen), or walk in 20–30 minutes.
Most sights are close to Takaoka Station. The Takaoka Daibutsu Great Buddha, Takaoka Castle Park, and Zuiryuji Temple are all within 1 km, and the Takaoka Historic Districts is about 1.5 km away—great for walking. The Manyo Line tram runs from Takaoka Station to the port and covers most main attractions. It costs 200 yen for short rides, with higher fares for longer trips.

Takaoka Travel Tips
Takaoka (高岡) is a historic city in Toyama Prefecture, once a proud castle town during the Edo Period. Although the original castle was lost due to a law allowing only one castle per province, its legacy lives on in the city’s layout and atmosphere. The streets still reflect its past, offering a glimpse into Japan’s feudal era charm.
Today, Takaoka is best known for its long-standing tradition of metal casting, an art that continues to shape the city's identity. This craftsmanship has been passed down for centuries and remains a vital industry. Thanks to its convenient location on the Hokuriku Shinkansen line, Takaoka is easily accessible and often visited by travelers heading to other destinations like the scenic Gokayama.
