Takaoka Casting Museum
The Takaoka Casting Museum (高岡市鋳物資料館, Takaoka-shi Imono Shiryōkan) offers a captivating look into the rich heritage of Takaoka’s renowned metal casting tradition. Through a thoughtfully curated collection of historical tools, molds, and casting techniques, the museum traces how Takaoka developed into Japan’s leading producer of bronze goods. Highlights include intricate temple bells, religious statues, and ornamental sculptures that showcase the exceptional craftsmanship handed down for over 400 years. Visitors gain insight into the artistry, precision, and innovation that define this time-honored industry.
Located in the atmospheric Kanayamachi District — once the heart of Takaoka’s metalworking community—the museum invites visitors to explore the roots of the city's identity. With its preserved traditional buildings and cobblestone streets, the area enhances the feeling of stepping back into the world of Edo-period craftsmanship. The museum not only educates but also fosters appreciation for the enduring beauty and cultural importance of bronze casting in Japanese art and daily life.
