From Takaoka or Shin-Takaoka Station, take the JR Johana Line to Tonami Station (20–25 minutes, 240 yen, one train per hour, covered by the Japan Rail Pass). Tonami Tulip Park is 1 km northeast of the station. During the fair, free shuttle buses run often between the station and the park.

Tonami Tulip Fair
Tonami Tulip Fair (となみチューリップフェア) is a colorful flower event held every spring in Tonami City, just south of Takaoka in Toyama Prefecture. Running for two weeks from late April to early May, the fair fills Tonami Tulip Park with around three million tulips in over 250 varieties. The park features large flowerbeds, floating tulips on a pond, fragrant tulip gardens, and viewing platforms—including a tulip-shaped tower for great views.
Tonami began growing tulips in 1918 and is now Japan’s top producer of tulip bulbs. The fair celebrates this long-standing tradition. A highlight is the Tonami Tulip Gallery, open year-round, where you can enjoy indoor tulip displays and learn more about tulip cultivation in a small museum. Some exhibits are explained in English, making it easy for international visitors to enjoy the story behind Japan’s tulip capital.
