From Takaoka or Shin-Takaoka Station, take the JR Johana Line to Tonami Station (20–25 minutes, ¥240, one train per hour; covered by the Japan Rail Pass). Tonami Tulip Park is located 1 km northeast of the station. During the fair, free shuttle buses run frequently between the station and the park.

Tonami Tulip Fair
The Tonami Tulip Fair (となみチューリップフェア) is one of Japan’s most vibrant spring events, held annually in Tonami City, just south of Takaoka. Taking place from late April to early May, the fair transforms Tonami Tulip Park into a stunning sea of color, with around three million tulips in over 250 varieties. Visitors can stroll through expansive flowerbeds, admire floating tulips on a tranquil pond, and enjoy panoramic views from elevated walkways and the park’s iconic tulip-shaped observation tower. The park's layout is ideal for photography, relaxing strolls, and soaking in the fresh scents of spring.
Tulip cultivation in Tonami began in 1918, and today the city is Japan’s leading producer of tulip bulbs. The fair is not only a floral spectacle but also a celebration of this proud local heritage. A must-see is the Tonami Tulip Gallery, a year-round indoor attraction featuring beautifully curated tulip displays, interactive exhibits, and a small museum dedicated to the region’s flower-growing history. With several exhibits explained in English, international visitors can fully enjoy the story behind Japan’s tulip capital.
