The Great Buddha of Kamakura (Kamakura Daibutsu) (鎌倉大仏, Kamakura Daibutsu) is an awe-inspiring bronze statue of Amida Buddha, located at Kotokuin Temple in Kamakura. Completed in 1252, the statue stands 11.4 meters tall, making it the second tallest bronze Buddha statue in Japan, surpassed only by the one in Nara's Todaiji Temple. Originally housed in a grand temple hall, the statue has withstood the test of time and nature. After being damaged by several typhoons and a tsunami, it has stood in the open air since the late 15th century, symbolizing resilience in the face of adversity.

Visitors can marvel at the Great Buddha's size and craftsmanship while exploring the serene grounds of Kotokuin Temple. The temple’s peaceful atmosphere adds to the statue's majestic presence, making it a must-see for anyone visiting Kamakura. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, the statue offers a quiet space for reflection and a chance to connect with Japan's rich spiritual and cultural history. As one of Kamakura's most iconic landmarks, the Great Buddha continues to draw tourists from all over the world, offering them a glimpse into Japan’s enduring heritage.
