From Tokyo to Takaoka

From Kanazawa to Takaoka

From Toyama, you can take the JR Hokuriku Shinkansen to Shin-Takaoka in about 10 minutes for 1,210 yen, or ride the Ainokaze Toyama Railway to Takaoka Station in 20 minutes for 390 yen. Both are covered by the Japan Rail Pass and Hokuriku Arch Pass.
From Gokayama or Shirakawago to Takaoka

From Gokayama or Shirakawago, you can take a Kaetsuno Bus to Takaoka or Shin-Takaoka Station. Buses run about every two hours. The ride costs 1,000–1,200 yen from Gokayama and 1,800 yen from Shirakawago. There are also a few highway buses to Shirakawago that take 60–155 minutes and cost 2,200 yen one way.

From Takaoka, you can take a highway bus to Takayama from either Takaoka or Shin-Takaoka Station. Buses don’t run often, and the trip takes 2 to 3.5 hours. It costs 3,300 yen one way.
