Yonetani Residence (旧米谷家住宅, Kyū Yonetani-ke Jūtaku) is a stunningly preserved Edo-period townhouse that has earned recognition as an important cultural property. Located in the heart of the town, this historic building was once home to the Yoneda family, who operated a store selling metal fittings within its walls. The residence features a unique five-room living space with varying floor heights and thick smoke returns, offering visitors a rare glimpse into the everyday life of the Edo era. Its charming farmhouse-style architecture is complemented by oddly-shaped storehouses, adding to the building’s rustic appeal.

The Yonetani Residence has also become famous as a filming location for the movie Rurouni Kenshin. Its distinctive architectural elements, including the gabled "kirizuma" roof, sukiya-style storage room, and kuramai-style storehouse, create a timeless atmosphere that transports visitors back to a bygone era. The peaceful backyard offers a serene escape, and visitors can tour the home free of charge. Whether you're drawn to traditional Japanese design or fascinated by the connection to Japanese film history, Yonetani Residence provides a quiet and enriching experience.
