Imanishi House

19 of 21 in Asuka And Sakurai

Imanishi House (今西家住宅, Imanishi-ke Jūtaku) is one of the grandest historical homes in town. Built around 1650, this elegant structure once served not only as a family residence but also as the local court and administrative office. The year of construction was discovered carved into one of its roof beams, adding a unique historical detail to the building’s story.

Today, the Imanishi House offers a rare look into Edo-period life and governance. While you do need to make a reservation to enter, same-day bookings are possible. If you need help, the friendly staff at the nearby Hanairaka Information Center can even call ahead for you. This stately home reflects both the architectural beauty and social importance of its time.
