Morioka Castle Ruins Park

3 of 8 in Morioka

Morioka Castle Ruins Park (盛岡城跡公園, Morioka Jōseki Kōen), also known as Iwate Park, offers a peaceful escape in the heart of the city. While the original Morioka Castle was demolished in 1874, the beautifully preserved stone walls still outline the former defensive structures, giving visitors a sense of its historical significance. Though no buildings remain, the area retains a quiet dignity, perfect for leisurely walks and exploration.

Each spring, the park becomes a lively cherry blossom destination, with blooms usually peaking from mid to late April. Locals and tourists gather to enjoy hanami picnics beneath the soft pink petals. With spacious grounds and seasonal beauty, this park blends cultural history with natural charm, making it a scenic stop year-round.
