From Morioka Station, it's an easy 15-minute walk to downtown.

Downtown Morioka
Downtown Morioka is a great place to explore on foot, thanks to its flat layout and neatly arranged streets. Just a 15-minute walk from Morioka Station, the city center is home to a lively mix of attractions, restaurants, and entertainment spots. Among its highlights is the eye-catching red brick building of the former Bank of Iwate, built in 1911. Its design is reminiscent of Tokyo Station Marunouchi side, and both were crafted by the same architect. You can even step inside and admire the interior.
Not far from the bank stands Morioka Castle Ruins Park, also called Iwate Park. Though the castle buildings were removed in 1874, the majestic stone walls remain. The park is now a peaceful green space perfect for strolls, especially during cherry blossom season in mid to late April. Nearby, you’ll find the Rock-breaking Cherry Tree, a 400-year-old marvel growing through solid granite beside the Morioka Courthouse.
