Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine (川越氷川神社, Kawagoe Hikawa Jinja) is a beloved destination for those seeking blessings in love and relationships. Both couples and singles visit to pray for romantic success, draw omikuji (fortune slips) specifically themed around love, and enjoy the shrine’s tranquil atmosphere. One of its most enchanting features is the tunnel of ema—wooden plaques where visitors write their wishes and prayers—which forms a photogenic and spiritually meaningful path. In summer, the shrine becomes especially magical as hundreds of colorful furin (wind chimes) are hung throughout the grounds, filling the air with soft, melodic sounds that create a dreamy, romantic setting.

With a history spanning over 1,500 years, Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine is deeply rooted in Shinto tradition and cultural significance. Its graceful architecture, peaceful surroundings, and riverside location make it a serene retreat throughout the year. The shrine is particularly vibrant during seasonal festivals, when it hosts traditional performances and evening illuminations. Just a short walk from Kawagoe’s Warehouse District, it offers visitors a quiet escape to stroll, take photos, and experience the timeless charm of old Japan in a spiritually rich atmosphere.
