Koiwai Farm
Koiwai Farm (小岩井農場, Koiwai Nōjō) near Morioka in Iwate is one of Japan’s most well-known farms, created in 1891 by three industrial pioneers who turned volcanic land into a thriving dairy estate. Spread across 3,000 hectares, the farm blends history and nature with two-thirds covered in cedar forest and the rest open pastures and facilities.
The main tourist area, Makiba Park, offers open grass fields, local food, souvenirs, and fun like mini golf, archery, and horse riding. A short walk leads to Kamimaru Cowshed, where visitors can see early 1900s buildings, working cowsheds, and a small museum. From mid-April to October, the farm welcomes visitors, while winter brings festive lights and snowy fun from November to early January.
