Nagatoro River Cruises

3 of 7 in Chichibu

The Nagatoro River Cruise provides a serene and picturesque way to explore the Arakawa River (荒川), which flows from Chichibu through Saitama and into Tokyo Bay. Located around 10 km from Chichibu, Nagatoro offers a stunning route where the river winds through dense forests and dramatic cliffs, creating a tranquil escape. The ideal time to experience this cruise is from mid to late November when the vibrant autumn foliage reaches its peak, offering breathtaking views. During the winter months, guests can enjoy the scenic ride in cozy comfort aboard special boats equipped with heated tables (kotatsu), perfect for the colder weather.

The cruise features two 30-minute routes, both operated by three different boat companies. These boats, which are powered by natural currents rather than engines, gently drift downstream, adding to the peaceful atmosphere of the journey. One route ends at Iwadatami Pier near Nagatoro Station, while the other starts from it. Tickets can be reserved online (in Japanese only) or purchased on-site, though availability may be limited during peak times. All cruises depart and return from near Nagatoro Station, making it convenient for visitors to join the tour and enjoy a scenic river experience.
