Hodosan Shrine

6 of 7 in Chichibu

Hodosan Shrine (寳登山神社, Hodosan Jinja) is a tranquil and historically rich site nestled at the base of Mount Hodo, about 10 kilometers north of Chichibu. Originally built in the year 110, the shrine's current structures were reconstructed during the Meiji Period. These buildings follow the Gongen-zukuri architectural style, where the prayer hall and main hall share a single roof. Surrounded by lush forests, the shrine is particularly captivating in autumn when the trees transform into a vibrant display of red, orange, and gold leaves, creating a picturesque scene.

The shrine's architecture is further enhanced by intricate, colorful carvings that add a visual splendor to the site. A short walk from the shrine leads to the Hodosan Ropeway, which transports visitors up the mountain, offering sweeping views of the surrounding forests and access to serene hiking trails. Whether you're captivated by the unique design of the shrine, enjoying the changing seasons, or taking a peaceful stroll in nature, Hodosan Shrine provides a serene escape in the heart of Saitama Prefecture, making it a perfect spot for reflection and relaxation.
