Hakone Ropeway

9 of 33 in Hakone

The Hakone Ropeway (箱根ロ-プウエイ) offers a spectacular aerial journey through some of Hakone’s most breathtaking scenery. Stretching from Sounzan to Togendai on the shores of Lake Ashinoko, it forms a key part of the popular Hakone Round Course. Along the route, the ropeway stops at Owakudani, a dramatic volcanic valley known for its steaming hot springs and sulfur vents, as well as the peaceful station of Ubako. The entire ride is fully covered by the Hakone Free Pass, making it a convenient and scenic way to explore the region.

Passengers are treated to panoramic views of Mount Fuji and Lake Ashinoko, especially on clear days. Gondolas depart every minute, carry up to ten passengers, and take about 30 minutes to complete the full route. A brief transfer at Owakudani allows visitors to step out and experience the geothermal landscape before continuing their journey.
