Fudoki-no-oka Archaeological Museum

8 of 8 in Narita

Fudoki-no-oka Archaeological Museum (房総風土記の丘資料館, Fūdoki no Oka Shiryōkan) in Chiba Prefecture offers a fascinating look at Japan’s early history. It displays artifacts discovered throughout the region, including tools, pottery, and items from ancient burial mounds. The museum is surrounded by a park filled with kofun—large burial mounds from the Kofun Period (300–538)—giving visitors a unique outdoor experience alongside the indoor exhibits.

Near the museum, you can explore reconstructed pit houses from the Jomon Period (13,000–300 BC), along with restored Edo-period homes and a school from the Meiji era. These structures help bring history to life, showing how people in Japan lived through different times. It's a great place to walk, learn, and enjoy the peaceful countryside.
