Boso no Mura Open Air Museum

3 of 8 in Narita

Boso no Mura (房総のむら, Bōsō no mura) is a fascinating open-air museum in Chiba Prefecture that brings Japan’s past to life. The recreated Edo Period village is filled with merchant homes, workshops, and farms, offering visitors the chance to step into daily life from centuries ago. Seasonal hands-on experiences like papermaking, tea ceremonies, and wearing samurai armor let you connect with traditional Japanese culture in a fun and interactive way. Four lively festivals are held throughout the year, each reflecting seasonal customs.

Surrounding the museum is a large public park dotted with ancient burial mounds from the Kofun Period. Nearby, the Fudoki-no-oka Archaeological Museum showcases historical artifacts found in Chiba. Visitors can also see reconstructed homes from the Jomon and Edo periods, along with a school building from the Meiji era, giving a deeper view of how people lived through the ages.
