Getting around
In Sakata, the main transport hub is Sakata Station, located near the Shonai Bus Terminal. Many tourist attractions are within walking distance from the station, and bicycles can be rented for free from various points, including next to the station.
Buses connect the station and tourist sites, though they may not be very frequent or easy for foreign tourists to use. Regular city buses and the Run Run buses (200 yen per ride) are available. Car rentals are another option, with outlets in the city center and Shonai Airport, making travel to Dewa Sanzan easier. Shonai Airport is 35 minutes from the city center by bus, with a fare of 880 yen.
