Tengudani Kiln Site
The Tengudani Kiln Site (天狗谷窯跡, Tengudani Kamaato) is a historically significant location where one of Arita’s earliest porcelain kilns once operated. Ingeniously constructed along a slope, this kiln was once an impressive 50 meters long and 5 meters wide, playing a crucial role in Arita’s rise as a center of porcelain production. While the original structure no longer stands, the site remains a vital point of interest, offering visitors a chance to explore the area where this key piece of ceramic history once thrived. Information panels provide insights into the kiln's design and the importance of its location in Arita’s early ceramic development.
Although the original kiln is gone, a faithful reproduction of it can be found at Arita Porcelain Park, allowing visitors to better understand the scale and complexity of early kiln design. Together, the original site and the replica provide a unique opportunity to appreciate the craftsmanship that went into producing porcelain at such an early stage in Arita’s history. The site remains a quiet, reflective destination for anyone interested in the origins of Japanese porcelain, providing a glimpse into the roots of the craftsmanship that would come to define the region.
