The Mito Plum Festival (水戸の梅まつり, Mito no Ume Matsuri) is a vibrant spring celebration held annually in Kairakuen Garden — one of Japan’s most renowned traditional landscape gardens. From mid-February to late March, over 3,000 plum trees burst into bloom in shades of white, pink, and red, transforming the garden into a sea of color and filling the air with a delicate, sweet fragrance. Throughout the grounds, visitors can enjoy plum-themed sweets, cultural performances, and scenic photo spots perfect for capturing the seasonal beauty.

As one of the oldest and most beloved festivals in the region, it attracts both locals and tourists. Special events, traditional music, and evening light-ups add to the festive atmosphere, giving the garden a magical ambiance after sunset. Whether you're there to admire the blossoms or simply soak in the peaceful setting, the Mito Plum Festival offers a culturally rich and relaxing way to experience Japan’s early spring charm.
