National Museum of Japanese History
The National Museum of Japanese History (国立歴史民俗博物館, Kokuritsu Rekishi Minzoku Hakubutsukan), located in Sakura City near Narita Airport, gives a detailed look at how Japan’s culture and society have evolved through time. Built on the former grounds of Sakura Castle, the museum features six main galleries that walk you through Japan’s journey from prehistoric times to today. These exhibits include real artifacts, life-sized models, and clear, engaging displays with English explanations.
There’s also a seventh gallery that hosts rotating special exhibitions, which require a separate ticket. English audio guides are available free of charge at the entrance, making it easy for international visitors to enjoy the experience. Whether you're curious about ancient traditions or the changes of modern Japan, this museum offers a well-rounded and easy-to-follow introduction to the country's rich heritage.
