Asuka Museum
The Asuka Museum (飛鳥資料館, Asuka Shiryōkan) offers a unique look into the Asuka Period (538–710), a pivotal time in Japan's early history. The museum includes two exhibition rooms on the ground floor and a special exhibit space in the basement. Although most displays have limited English descriptions, visitors can still enjoy detailed models and reconstructions that visually explain the ancient culture of the Asuka region.
One of the standout features is the Sekijinzo, a 7th-century stone fountain showing an embracing couple, discovered just a few hundred meters from the museum. Alongside it is the Shumisenseki, another ancient fountain found nearby. A full-scale reconstruction of Shumisenseki stands at the museum’s entrance, surrounded by other stone sculptures that connect visitors with Japan’s early artistic expressions and historical roots.
