1 of 10 in Takamatsu

Ritsurin Koen (栗林公園) is one of Japan’s most renowned gardens, frequently ranked among the "three most beautiful gardens of Japan." Originally constructed during the early Edo Period by local feudal lords, the garden spans a vast area filled with tranquil ponds, lush hills, and beautiful pavilions. The park is divided into two distinct sections: the southern area features a traditional Japanese-style garden, complete with meticulously arranged landscapes and serene waterways, while the northern section presents a Western-style garden, offering a charming contrast. The majestic Mt. Shiun looms in the background, enhancing the natural beauty of the garden and providing breathtaking views from nearly every corner.

In addition to its stunning natural beauty, Ritsurin Koen offers a variety of cultural and recreational facilities for visitors. The park is home to a folk museum, showcasing local history and craftsmanship, as well as several shops selling traditional goods and souvenirs. Resthouses provide peaceful spots to relax and soak in the scenery, while the Kikugetsu-tei teahouse offers a serene retreat where visitors can enjoy a cup of tea while gazing over the picturesque ponds. The carefully curated blend of nature, history, and cultural experiences makes Ritsurin Koen a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Takamatsu.
