Kakurin-tei Tea House
Kakurin-tei Tea House (隔林亭, Kakurin-tei) is a serene cultural gem nestled within the tranquil grounds of Saga’s Kono Park. Originally constructed in 1846 for Lord Nabeshima Naomasa, the feudal lord of Saga, the tea house was designed as a guesthouse to host important visitors. Unfortunately, the building was destroyed by fire in 1874. However, it was meticulously reconstructed in 1989, based on historical records and photographs, allowing visitors to experience the same architectural beauty and charm that once graced the era.
The tea house is an exquisite example of authentic Japanese architecture, with its traditional wooden design and graceful simplicity. The peaceful atmosphere is enhanced by the surrounding Japanese garden and koi pond, creating a harmonious setting that invites reflection. Inside, visitors can admire the delicate craftsmanship of the building while enjoying the calming ambiance. Kakurin-tei provides an ideal space to experience the traditional art of tea preparation, offering a window into the refined customs and hospitality of the samurai era. Just a short walk from Saga Castle, it offers an escape into a quieter, more elegant past.
