Suehiro Sake Brewery
Suehiro Sake Brewery, nestled in the historic town of Aizu, stands as one of Japan’s most distinguished sake makers, with a heritage dating back to 1850. Operated by the same family for eight generations, the brewery continues to uphold the traditional Yamahai method of slow, natural fermentation, producing sake with deep, layered flavors. Its award-winning varieties have earned acclaim both in Japan and abroad. Alongside its classic brews, Suehiro also experiments with sparkling sake and creative products such as sake-infused desserts and even bath extracts, combining craftsmanship with modern creativity.
Visitors can experience the art of sake-making through guided tours that run hourly throughout the day. The tour includes a walk through the fermentation rooms, a small museum displaying historic tools, and a tasting bar offering samples of Suehiro’s finest selections, including rare aged sake matured in temperature-controlled storage. The on-site café delights guests with original sweets made using sake, while live jazz performances occasionally fill the brewery’s cozy concert hall. A fascinating highlight is the museum’s display of over 500 vintage film cameras—the largest private collection in Japan—adding a touch of culture to this rich and sensory journey.
