Sakinoyu

3 of 9 in Shirahama

Sakinoyu (崎の湯) is one of Japan’s oldest and most scenic outdoor baths, located right along the seashore in Shirahama. With waves crashing just beyond the edge of the bath, visitors can soak while gazing out over the ocean—an unforgettable combination of relaxation and natural beauty.

What makes Sakinoyu truly special is its history. This hot spring dates back over a thousand years and is even mentioned in Japan’s oldest written records. Steeped in tradition yet accessible to modern travelers, it offers a unique chance to bathe like the ancients while enjoying the coastal breeze and sound of the sea.
