  From Tokyo, take the JR Tohoku Shinkansen to Shin-Hanamaki Station (about 3 hours, ~13,000 yen), then transfer to the JR Kamaishi Line for a 45–60 minute ride to Tono (770 yen, trains every 1–2 hours); the route is fully covered by the Japan Rail Pass, JR East Tohoku Area Pass, and JR East South Hokkaido Pass.
