A cheaper but slower alternative is the JR Tokaido Line using local or rapid trains. This option takes around 60 to 80 minutes and costs approximately 1,170 yen one way. Both routes have frequent departures throughout the day, and the shinkansen is covered by the Japan Rail Pass.
