Getting there

Google Maps

Akechidaira Plateau is located along the Irohazaka Winding Road, but it cannot be accessed from the downhill route. In 2019, two-way traffic was halted between Chuzenji Onsen and the plateau.

From JR or Tobu Nikko Station, take a bus to Chuzenji Onsen or Yumoto Onsen and get off at the Akechidaira bus stop (35 minutes, 1250 yen, 3-4 buses per hour). Buses traveling in the opposite direction do not stop here. The plateau can get very crowded in autumn, especially on weekends, with traffic jams and limited parking.
