The Hakone Botanical Garden of Wetlands (箱根湿生花園, Hakone Shisseikaen) is located in the picturesque highlands of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, in the Sengokuhara district. Established in 1976, the garden specializes in the conservation of over 1,700 species of wetland, alpine, and wild mountain plants native to Japan. Spread across various ecosystems—including marshes, wetlands, and grasslands—visitors can explore this diverse natural environment along wooden boardwalks. Informative signs in both Japanese and English offer insight into the flora, making the garden a rewarding and educational destination for nature enthusiasts.

The garden is especially popular in June, when the bright yellow Nikko Kisuge (Japanese daylily) blooms in full glory, transforming the landscape into a sea of color. Throughout spring and summer, other species such as irises, primroses, and alpine flowers come into bloom, giving the park a continually changing appearance. Although the garden is closed during the winter months (from late November to around March), its combination of tranquility, biodiversity, and educational value makes it an ideal destination for visitors seeking a deeper connection with Japan’s natural beauty.
