Miyazaki is located on the southeastern coast of Kyushu and is easily accessible by train or air, with Miyazaki Station serving as the city’s main transportation hub. From there, it’s easy to reach attractions such as Miyazaki Shrine, the Miyazaki Prefectural Museum, and the Miyazaki Science Museum, all of which are within range of public transport.
The city has a bus network centered around Miyazaki Station, offering routes to local points of interest. Many attractions are also within walking distance of a JR station. While bus services can be infrequent, a one-day bus pass is available for 700 yen on weekends and holidays. Renting a car isn’t essential but can be convenient for visiting destinations outside the city—such as Udo Shrine — with rental services available at the airport and in the city center.

Miyazaki Travel Tips
Miyazaki (宮崎市), the radiant capital of Miyazaki Prefecture, lies along Kyushu’s southeastern coastline and enjoys one of Japan’s sunniest and most temperate climates. Once a favorite honeymoon destination in the postwar era, the city enchanted visitors with its palm-lined beaches, luxurious seaside resorts, and abundance of outdoor sports facilities, including golf courses and surfing spots. Though tourism gradually declined by the 1980s, Miyazaki experienced a cultural revival under the leadership of former comedian and charismatic governor Higashikokubaru Hideo, who drew nationwide attention to the region between 2007 and 2011 through a strong media presence and effective promotional campaigns.
Miyazaki’s appeal extends far beyond the city itself. It serves as a convenient gateway to some of Kyushu’s most iconic natural and spiritual landmarks. To the north lies the mystical Takachiho Gorge, famed for its dramatic cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and associations with ancient Shinto legends. To the southwest, the volcanic landscapes of the Kirishima mountain range offer scenic hiking trails and sacred shrines deeply rooted in mythology. Together, these sites provide an unforgettable journey through the natural beauty and cultural depth that define Miyazaki Prefecture.
