The Otemon entrance to the East Gardens is a short walk from Otemachi Station, which is served by multiple subway lines. It’s also about a 10-15 minute walk from Tokyo Station.

Imperial Palace East Gardens
The Imperial Palace East Gardens (皇居東御苑, Kōkyo Higashi Gyoen) offer a peaceful retreat in the heart of Tokyo. Once part of Edo Castle's outer defense circles, the gardens are now open to the public. While the main buildings are gone, visitors can still see the original moats, walls, entrance gates, and guardhouses, providing a glimpse into Japan’s rich history.
On top of the hill stands the foundation of the former castle tower, once the tallest in Japan. Though it was destroyed in a fire in 1657, the area remains a beautiful spot with a traditional Japanese garden in place of the former palace buildings.
