From Tono Station, it takes about 20–25 minutes by car or taxi to get to Fukusenji Temple in the hills northeast of town. There’s no direct bus, so a taxi or rental car is the easiest way. The temple is easy to find, and there’s parking near the entrance.

Fukusenji Temple
Fukusenji Temple (福泉寺, Fukusenji) is a peaceful temple complex located on a forested slope in northeastern Tono. Belonging to the Shingon sect of Japanese Buddhism, the grounds feature several large halls and a striking five-story pagoda, all surrounded by nature and mountain air.
The temple’s most impressive highlight is its towering 17-meter-tall wooden statue of Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy. The statue stands gracefully within the main hall and leaves a lasting impression with its serene presence. With its blend of spiritual atmosphere, traditional architecture, and mountain setting, Fukusenji offers a calming and memorable cultural experience.
