Fukusenji Temple (福泉寺, Fukusenji) is a peaceful temple complex located on a forested slope in northeastern Tono. Belonging to the Shingon sect of Japanese Buddhism, the grounds feature several large halls and a striking five-story pagoda, all surrounded by nature and mountain air.

The temple’s most impressive highlight is its towering 17-meter-tall wooden statue of Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy. The statue stands gracefully within the main hall and leaves a lasting impression with its serene presence. Getting there

From Tono Station, it takes about 20–25 minutes by car or taxi to get to Fukusenji Temple in the hills northeast of town. There’s no direct bus, so a taxi or rental car is the easiest way. The temple is easy to find, and there’s parking near the entrance.
