Benesse House

2 of 9 in Naoshima Island

Benesse House is a one-of-a-kind fusion of a contemporary art museum and luxury resort. Designed by acclaimed architect Ando Tadao, the complex consists of four distinct buildings—Museum, Oval, Park, and Beach—each offering its own unique combination of artwork and guest accommodations. Set on a hillside with sweeping views of the sea, the museum features an impressive collection of works by both Japanese and international artists, all inspired by the island's stunning natural beauty and architectural design. Guests staying in the Museum and Oval buildings enjoy exclusive 24-hour access to the exhibits, providing an immersive artistic experience that blurs the line between art and accommodation.

The artistic experience at Benesse House extends beyond the museum itself, with nearly twenty large-scale installations scattered along the island’s scenic shoreline and cliffs. Among the highlights is the iconic pumpkin sculpture, which was carefully restored after being damaged by a typhoon in 2021. The resort also offers a range of high-end amenities, including fine dining options, cafés, boutique shops, and a relaxing spa, all available to both guests and day visitors. For those staying at the resort, there is the added benefit of exclusive access to private restaurants and after-hours museum entry, with rooms starting at approximately 40,000 yen per night. This makes Benesse House the premier destination for those seeking an unforgettable combination of art, luxury, and natural beauty on Naoshima Island.
