Yamashita Park

8 of 39 in Yokohama

Yamashita Park (山下公園, Yamashita Kōen) is a picturesque public park located along Yokohama’s scenic waterfront, stretching over 750 meters. Established after the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, the park provides expansive green spaces for relaxation and enjoyment. Visitors can admire the iconic Hikawa Maru, a historic ocean liner anchored nearby. Once a prominent ship on the Yokohama-Vancouver/Seattle route, it was favored by distinguished guests, including members of the Imperial Family and celebrities like Charlie Chaplin. Now retired, the Hikawa Maru serves as a museum, allowing visitors to explore its original 1930s interiors and learn about its storied history.

In addition to the Hikawa Maru, Yamashita Park is home to the impressive Yokohama Marine Tower, standing at 106 meters tall. The tower offers a stunning 360-degree panoramic view from its observatory, perched 100 meters above ground. The park’s wide promenade provides a relaxing stroll by the waterfront, where you can enjoy the views of Yokohama Bay and passing ships. At the southern end of the park, the path leads to the Rinkosen promenade and Osanbashi Pier, offering an enjoyable walk between these key landmarks. Throughout the park, visitors will find various monuments and fountains, including a tribute to a Filipino general and a statue of a girl scout, adding to the park's historical and cultural significance.
