Nagamachi is a 5-minute walk south of the Korinbo bus stop. Buses from Kanazawa Station (Kenrokuen Exit) take about 10 minutes to reach Korinbo. JR buses (1–3 per hour) and the Kanazawa Loop Bus also serve the area. The fare is 210 yen.
Nagamachi Samurai District
Nagamachi (長町) is a historic samurai district nestled at the foot of the former Kanazawa Castle, offering visitors a step back in time. The area is famous for its well-preserved samurai residences, narrow cobbled streets, and tranquil water canals, which once played a vital role in the daily lives of samurai families. Strolling through the district, you'll encounter traditional earthen walls and private gates that once protected the noble households. The atmosphere here feels remarkably authentic, providing a vivid glimpse into the past and the aristocratic lifestyle of the Edo period.
A key attraction in Nagamachi is Nomura-ke, a beautifully restored samurai residence that offers an intimate look at the life of a prosperous samurai family. The house is filled with artifacts and furnishings that reflect the opulence of the era, making it a highlight for history enthusiasts. In contrast, the Shinise Kinenkan Museum delves into the lives of the merchant class, whose wealth grew as the samurai’s influence waned. Together, these sites provide a fascinating contrast, showcasing both the aristocratic and merchant sides of Kanazawa’s rich cultural history.

The Nagamachi Samurai District was amazing to see! Walking through the narrow streets lined with traditional samurai houses felt like stepping into Japan’s rich history. The preserved architecture really gives you a sense of the past.
The small canals in the area were another highlight—seeing the giant fish swimming around was such a unique experience! The peaceful atmosphere and the picturesque setting made this area one of the most memorable parts of my trip. It’s a must-visit for anyone interested in Japan’s samurai heritage.6 months ago — by Emma
