Kanazawa Castle (金沢城, Kanazawajō) was the residence of the Maeda Clan, the powerful rulers of the Kaga Domain, from 1583 until the end of the Edo Period. Although the castle endured several devastating fires, the most recent in 1881, it still retains key original structures. The Ishikawa-mon Gate, which faces the picturesque Kenrokuen Garden, remains one of the most iconic features of the castle grounds. For many years, Kanazawa University occupied the site, but recent restoration efforts have allowed the castle to regain much of its former splendor, bringing its rich history back to life for modern visitors.

Among the highlights of the castle's reconstruction are the Gojukken Nagaya Storehouse and the Hishi and Tsuzuki Yagura turrets, as well as other gates like Kahoku-mon and Nezumita-mon. These restored buildings offer a fascinating glimpse into traditional Japanese carpentry techniques and the architectural grandeur of the castle. The Gyokuseninmaru Garden, featuring a serene pond, has also been carefully reconstructed, providing a peaceful retreat for visitors. This beautiful garden is open to the public for free, offering a perfect place to relax while exploring the castle’s historical and cultural legacy.
