Shodoshima Olive Park

3 of 8 in Shodoshima Island

Shodoshima Olive Park (小豆島オリーブ公園, Shōdoshima Olive Kōen) is a charming destination and the birthplace of olive cultivation in Japan. The island’s Mediterranean-like climate allowed for the successful growth of olives for the first time in 1908, earning it the nickname "Olive Island." Visitors can wander through scenic olive groves where olives were first cultivated and enjoy the park’s picturesque walking paths that offer stunning views of the island’s lush landscapes. A standout feature of the park is a beautiful replica of a Greek windmill, providing the perfect photo opportunity for tourists who want to capture the essence of this Mediterranean-inspired landscape.

In addition to the olive groves, Shodoshima Olive Park is home to a museum that details the fascinating history of olive cultivation on the island. The park offers a variety of olive-themed products, such as olive oil, cosmetics, olive noodles, and even olive ice cream, all available for purchase at the park’s shops and café. For those seeking relaxation, the Sun Olive bathhouse offers soothing hot spring baths with panoramic views of both the island and the surrounding Seto Inland Sea, creating a perfect retreat for visitors looking to unwind amidst nature’s beauty.
