Sankeien (三溪園) is a stunning Japanese-style garden nestled in the southern part of Yokohama, offering a tranquil escape surrounded by ponds, rivers, lush flowers, and winding scenic trails. The garden was designed and created by Hara Sankei, a successful businessman, and was opened to the public in 1904. It combines natural beauty with historical significance, showcasing traditional Japanese landscaping techniques that transport visitors to another time. The garden is designed to reflect the peaceful atmosphere of Kyoto, with its carefully maintained flora and thoughtfully placed architectural elements.

One of the highlights of Sankeien is its impressive collection of historic buildings, which were relocated from various regions of Japan to preserve their cultural value. Among these is a daimyo residence, several traditional tea houses, and the old Tomyoji Temple from Kyoto, featuring a three-story pagoda and its main hall. These architectural treasures, set against the backdrop of the lush garden, create a harmonious blend of history and nature, making Sankeien an essential destination for those interested in traditional Japanese architecture and the serene beauty of classical landscapes.
