Shikoku Mura
Shikoku Mura (四国村, meaning "Shikoku Village"), nestled at the base of Yashima, is an enchanting open-air museum that immerses visitors in the rich cultural heritage of Shikoku Island. Set in a scenic hillside park, the museum features an impressive collection of traditional buildings and structures from the Edo and Meiji periods, carefully relocated from various parts of the island. As visitors wander through the village, they can explore authentic farmhouses, workshops where sugar and soy sauce are still produced using traditional methods, and unique cultural landmarks, such as a kabuki theater. This open-air theater, with its classic seating arrangement, occasionally hosts captivating performances, adding an extra layer of cultural depth to the experience.
One of the standout attractions at Shikoku Mura is the stunning vine suspension bridge, crafted from vines and wood, reinforced with steel cables. This bridge, which closely resembles those found in the Iya Valley, offers visitors a chance to walk across and take in breathtaking views of the surrounding nature. The museum also boasts an art gallery showcasing contemporary works by global artists, offering not only artistic enjoyment but also picturesque views of the city below. Special events are frequently held in this creative space, making Shikoku Mura a dynamic blend of history, art, and nature—perfect for travelers seeking a unique and immersive experience.
