Mount Rokko
Mount Rokko (六甲山, Rokkōsan), rising to 931 meters, is the tallest peak in the Rokko mountain range and a beloved escape just outside Kobe. Its summit offers sweeping views of the city, Osaka Bay, and beyond—especially stunning at twilight when the city lights begin to sparkle. With its cooler climate and lush natural surroundings, Mount Rokko provides a refreshing break from urban life and draws hikers, couples, and day-trippers throughout the year. The area is also famous for offering one of Japan’s “Top Three Night Views,” making it a must-visit after dark.
The mountaintop is home to a variety of attractions that appeal to visitors of all ages. The Rokko Alpine Botanical Garden showcases highland flora from around the world, while the Rokko International Musical Box Museum offers a charming experience with antique music boxes and live demonstrations. Families can enjoy the Rokko Pasture, where sheep graze among vibrant seasonal flowers in a picturesque setting. A major highlight is Rokko Garden Terrace, featuring cafés, artisan shops, and a scenic lookout platform. A convenient circular bus connects these attractions, linking the Rokko Cablecar at the mountain’s base with the Rokko Arima Ropeway that descends toward the renowned Arima Onsen.
