Onuma Quasi National Park
Onuma Park (大沼公園, Ōnuma Kōen) is a scenic gem just 20 km north of Hakodate, designated as a "quasi-national park" and easily accessible via the Onuma Koen Station on the train line between Hakodate and Sapporo. The park is famed for its serene lakes, lush walking trails, and the striking backdrop of Mount Komagatake, an impressive volcano that adds dramatic beauty to the landscape. Whether you're stopping over on a longer trip or taking a day trip from Hakodate, it's a perfect nature escape.
The area between the larger Lake Onuma and smaller Lake Konuma is especially popular, with picturesque walking paths and charming bridges connecting the islands. Visitors can also enjoy cycling around Lake Onuma, boat cruises, or outdoor activities like canoeing, fishing, and camping. In warmer seasons, sightseeing cruises depart every 40 minutes, offering a relaxing way to take in the stunning scenery.
