Okayama Castle

1 of 7 in Okayama

Okayama Castle (岡山城, Okayamajō), nicknamed "Crow Castle" for its striking black exterior, was originally built in 1597 and reflects the grandeur of the Azuchi-Momoyama Period. Although the original structure was destroyed during World War II, it was beautifully reconstructed in 1966. Situated along the Asahi River near the stunning Korakuen Garden, the castle retains its historic charm, with the Tsukimi Yagura turret from 1620 standing as a rare original feature.

Visitors can explore the six-story castle keep, which houses exhibits on its history, and try their hand at crafting Bizen-yaki pottery in the on-site studio—an experience unique to Okayama.
