The Temple Walk begins about 200 meters north of the first bridge east of Onomichi Station. A taxi ride from the station to the far end of the route costs around 800 yen, though taxis are easier to find at the station. You can pick up a map of the route at local tourist information centers, or check our links section for a downloadable PDF version.

Onomichi Temple Walk
The Onomichi Temple Walk is a must-do experience, offering visitors the chance to explore 25 temples along a scenic 2.5 km route. The path winds through narrow streets, past small shops, and provides beautiful views of the town and surrounding islands. Along the way, you’ll encounter charming temples—some with pagodas—as well as other attractions such as former residences of famous authors and a literary path marked with poetic inscriptions. The route is well-marked, though a few detours are needed to reach certain temples.
In addition to the temples, you can visit Senkoji Park, located at the top of a hill. The park offers stunning views of Onomichi and is home to Senkoji Temple and the Onomichi City Museum of Art, designed by renowned architect Ando Tadao. Visitors can also enjoy cherry blossoms in late March and early April, as the park is recognized as one of Japan's 100 best cherry blossom viewing spots. It also features an observation platform with panoramic views.
