Itsukushima Shrine (厳島神社, Itsukushima Jinja) on Miyajima Island is famous for its "floating" torii gate—an iconic sight that appears to hover above the water during high tide. This centuries-old Shinto shrine, built over the sea, showcases stunning architecture, including a prayer hall, main hall, and a Noh theater stage, all connected by elevated boardwalks. The serene setting, with Mount Misen as a backdrop, adds to the shrine’s mystical charm.

Visitors can stroll along scenic walking paths, enjoy evening illuminations of the shrine and gate, or take a boat cruise for breathtaking views. During low tide, you can walk right up to the torii gate for an unforgettable experience. A must-visit destination that blends history, culture, and nature!

Itsukushima Shrine is absolutely breathtaking! The "floating" torii gate is a magical sight, especially during high tide when it appears to hover over the sea. Walking through the shrine's elevated pathways with the serene waters below was a truly peaceful experience. The history and cultural significance of the shrine are fascinating, and the evening illumination adds a romantic touch to the visit.

During low tide, I loved being able to walk up close to the torii gate, making for some incredible photos. The surrounding scenery, with Mount Misen in the background, completes the picture-perfect setting. A must-visit for anyone exploring Miyajima Island!
